Botulinum toxin (Botox) has been used successfully for a number of different conditions, including hyperhidrosis (or excessive sweating). Injections of botulinum toxin into the axillae (underarms), palms, and soles essentially turn off the eccrine (sweat) glands in these areas, thereby leaving them high and dry. Botulinum injections are also used to treat muscle spasms (in epilepsy and other conditions), facial tics, eyelid twitching (blepharospasm), and migraine headaches.
