You didn't say what body part you wanted to brace. On the chance that you've injured your ankle (it's a common injury), I've included a YouTube link that outlines how to tape an ankle to stabilize it. Keep in mind that taping forms a fairly rigid brace, so if your ankle is still swelling, such a "brace" could impair the circulation to your foot. Thus, if you decide to tape your ankle, always keep a pair of bandage scissors handy to remove the tape if your foot swells. A walker boot (available at most pharmacies, but quite expensive) is also a good way to stabilize an injured ankle.
If you've injured some other body part, your pharmacy has a variety of splints and braces, and they're already preformed in most cases. You can also find an array of SAM splints at various online sources (amazon.com is one source). These are inexpensive, semi-rigid, reusable splints that can adapt to just about any body part.
Braces and splints can be made at home from a variety of materials -- you're only limited by your imagination. Paper towel rolls, corrugated cardboard, padded dowels, rolled towels, strips of toweling soaked in Plaster-of-Paris and wrapped around the injured body part while still wet...all can be used in a pinch.
I hope that's at least somewhat helpful.
