The best thing to do would be to avoid stress and eating high sugar foods and carbohydrates which can increase inflammation and acne. There are several over-the-counter acne medications that contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which help to dry up acne lesions. If you have sensitive skin; however, you should be mindful that these products can be irritating. If you have lots of small bumps or blackheads and whiteheads, you may benefit from the use of an ultrasonic skin care brush which can gently remove the dirt and clear the blocked pores. Inflamed cysts (usually red and painful) should not be squeezed. Instead, apply a warm wet washcloth to the area for 10 minutes, followed by a gentle massage with over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream up to four times a day.
