Headaches and High Blood Pressure

I have been having a bad headache for about a week now and then last night my husband checked my blood pressure and it was high I never have high blood pressure. Could my blood pressure be causing my headaches?

Answered November 12, 2011 11:43. High blood pressure can cause a headache, but it's actually a pretty unusual cause. Generally speaking, blood-pressure has to be quite high before it would cause a headache.

For most people, the upper limit of normal blood pressure would be 140 systolic (upper number)and 90 diastolic (lower number). Readings higher than that may be harmful over the long term, but aren't likely to cause a headache unless the systolic is >180 or diastolic is >100.

Be aware that some conditions that cause headaches can also lead to high blood pressure. Either way, you should probably see you doctor soon.
