Are there any over the counter medications for pink eye?

Pink Eye

Do I need to see my doctor for pink eye, or can I use some sort of over-the-counter eye drops to treat it?

Answered June 08, 2011 09:50. You eye can be red for a variety of reasons. If you or a family member have recently had a cold then most likely your "pink eye" is likely due to a virus. Just like the common cold, there is no cure for a viral conjunctivitis, but you can take thinks to make your feel better. Chilled, preservative free tear drops can be used for comfort. Avoid Visine or "red-out" types of drops. If your eye is becoming painful, light sensitive or blurry you should definitely seek out an ophthalmologist (Eye MD) for more definitive diagnosis and treatment.
