These are some simple steps that will help you preserve your legal rights after an accident. If followed they will go a long way to helping you resolve you claim and get the recovery you deserve.
1
At The Scene
DO NOT REFUSE medical help. Not only is this the wise thing to do it will also help your case.
GET INFORMATION. If you are able, get the names of everyone at the scene. Of course you should exchange information with the other driver and obtain the other driver's license and insurance information. Also write down the plate number or VIN of the other vehicle if you can. Every person at the scene - whether they were involved or not - including officers and bystanders should be recorded. Get their name and telephone number.
PRESERVE EVIDENCE. If you can take pictures do so. The more the better. If you got clothes dirty, bloody or torn - keep them in a bag and do not wash or repair them.
CALL YOUR LOVED ONES. At a time like this you need to have the care and support of friends or family.

The Next 72 Hours
CALL AN ATTORNEY. I personally would not retain a lawyer who promises anything, guarantees "speedy recovery" or is unwilling to take the matter to trial. You realistically will probably not go to trial, but you r attorney has to be willing to take it all the way to trial if needed in order to amximize your recovery.
DO NOT TALK TO ANYONE. Tell people you are being represented by an attorney and give them your lawyer's name and number. Let the lawyer control the information that goes out.
BE PATIENT & GET WELL. This is all about you getting back to being well and whole. If you need to take a day off, try to do so. If you have doctor appointments or physical therapy, complete all of your appointments. Do what your doctor tells you and be patient.
