What if I am not currently receiving my lawful rest periods?
Call the Department of Labor and Industries of the State of Washington, Employment Standards Division. In Spokane, their number is (509) 324-2585. They should be willing to investigate and remedy the problem.
What is my remedy for past denial of my rest periods?
You are entitled to be compensated for the additional ten minutes of work that you had to perform each two hour period. If you worked forty hours a week, then the extra time you had to work instead of being on your rest period is actually overtime, so you are entitled to time and a half. And, if done intentionally, you can collect double what you are then owed. You are also entitled to award of your attorney fees if it goes to court.
