If I join a class, what is my role?
If you simply join a class action, and you are not a class representative, your role will be very small. Most of the time, your job will be to complete a form requesting compensation after the work is done and the class certified.
What is a class representative?
Class representatives are people who take on responsibility for litigating a case on behalf of everyone who has similar case. Class representatives are approved by the Court. They are named in the lawsuit, and they participate in depositions and discovery on behalf of everyone else.
If I do not like a settlement in a class action, what do I do?
Generally class actions are settled, and the settlement is approved by a Judge. Notice will be provided in the appropriate ways to the class, and you will be given the opportunity to file an opt out notice. If you decide to opt out, you will be responsible for pursuing your own case.
