Permanent Alimony.

This kind of alimony is generally paid at the end of longer marriages and where the income disparity is great. It must be paid until one of the parties dies.

Rehabilitative Alimony

Rehabilitative alimony is paid for a fixed period of time while the dependent spouse seeks additional education or training to "rehabilitate" herself and restore her position in the job market.

Reimbursement Alimony

This kind of alimony is paid to a spouse to reimburse her for the contributions she made toward her spouse's professional schooling.

Limited duration alimony

Sometimes referred to as "term alimony," limited duration alimony is paid to the dependent spouse for a limited number of years. It is not necessarily tied to a rehabilitation plan. It is often negotiated between the parties, or ordered by the court to adjust the financial positions of the parties.
