Here are tips to prevent or reduce injuries in motorcycle accidents. Motorcycles by design are less safe than cars and trucks because there is no protective enclosure, seat belts, or airbags.

HelmetsWearing a helmet is safe but is required by Texas with few exceptions. In Texas, people over the age of 21 who have completed a safety course and have health insurance in the amount of at least $10,000.00 do not have to wear a helmet. 2
Dress and AttireBecause a motorcycle driver my make contact with the ground in an accident, a driver and any passengers, should wear protective clothing that covers the skin and protects the tissues, muscles and organs. Examples of protective clothing are boots, denim, leather, and other clothing items that are padded to reduce trauma from contact with street pavement. 3
Eye and Foot ProtectionEye protection will not allow prevent injuries debris in the air when operating a motorcycle but can also protect the eyes in the event of an accident. Proper footwear means leather boots and not sandals or athletic shoes, which will not help your legs and feet survive a motorcycle accident. |
