The amount fo child support the father was required to pay BY A PRIOR ORDER was below the child support guidelines. The trial court may modify the order to conform to the guidelines if the court determines it is in the best interest of the children. Family Law in the Fifty States 2009-2010, 44 ABA FAM. L. J. 519, 580 (2011). Note the the court did not limit its holding to situations where child support would be RAISED to guidelines. Presumably, the same rationale would hold for LOWERING child support down to guidelines.
