The biggest asset most couples have is their ability to communicate for the benefit of the children. This asset is at risk in a dissolution of marriage. The attorney should provide good counsel, so that this asset which helps the children is not lost.
1
Careful Communication
When communicating be mindful that the other party may not be in a good situation to discuss. First set an appointment. Second let the other parent know of the issue you may wish to discuss. Third, don't do any research before meeting with the other parent. Fourth, meet and brainstorm ideas which need to be considered regarding the issue involving the children. Fifth, decide who will gather what information needed to make a decision. Sixth, meet back together with what you have found. Seventh, agree on a plan and execute it.
2
Know What to Fight About
You don't have to fight about every issue. Figure out the areas of agreement and recognize the other person's right to disagree. Good people can still disagree.
