A Rhode Island House Legislative committee will vote today on whether a bill allowing homosexual civil unions should enter the House for consideration. Civil unions would allow the same state rights given to married couples, and has been viewed as another avenue for gay rights after "legislative leaders announced that gay marriage legislation lacked the votes needed to pass." Officials say the bill could be addressed in the full House as early as Thursday. Wire Report, Boston Globe 05/17/2011
