VA Aid and Attendance is a very helpful benefit for assisted living residents.
There are also VA non-service connected disability payments for low income and housebound disabled Veterans.

Service Requirements for the Veteran (or the widow of a qualifying Veteran)
A. At least 90 days of active duty service
B. At least 1 of those days of service must have occurred during a time of war.
C. The Veterans discharge must be "other than dishonorable".
2
Asset Limitations
There are no set asset limits. However, the Veteran will generally not be eligible if the household has more than $80,000 in countable assets. The house, automobile, personable effects, and funeral service contracts are generally not countable towards the asset limit.
3
Income Limitations
The Veteran cannot have income which exceeds the Maximum Allowable Pension rate. The Veteran's income can be "reduced" by "unreimbursed medical expenses". The monthly bill at the assisted living facility is generally treated as "unreimbursed medical expenses". This is why this program is especially helpful for assisted living residents.
