Multi-vehicle accidents have the potential to cause serious injury or death for many people.

Recently, a firefighter died while responding to a multi-vehicle accident. The 39 year old firefighter was a part of the Hudson Fire Department and was responding to a crash on Interstate 39 in McLean County. As rescue vehicles were at the scene of the accident, providing support, a semi truck crashed into three of the rescue vehicles.

There were six firefighters were injured and the 39 year old suffered severe blunt force trauma injuries that ended up being fatal.

Unfortunately, responders who rush to the scene of a car accidents also put themselves at risk of injury by being hit by passing vehicles that have not slowed down. The cause of the accident is still under investigation and whether the accident was caused by driver error, illness, or intoxication, has not been established yet.

Any car accident can be serious but multi-vehicle accidents can be especially dangerous for drivers. Because they typically occur at high speeds in high traffic areas, multi vehicle crashes can become deadly very quickly and are some of the deadliest of traffic accidents. When cars are traveling at high speeds, it is harder to avoid an accident when one car experiences a problem. Unfortunately, there is a chain reaction that can affect many drivers. Whiplash, traumatic brain injuries, leg injuries, neck injuries, fractures, spinal cord injuries, and wrongful death are unfortunately not uncommon with multi-vehicle crashes. Even responders and those who can walk away from the accident are put at significant risk of being struck or hurt as they help those at the scene.

Finding out how and why the accident happened and who is responsible is important. Claims can be very complex in these situations because there can be more than one at-fault party and more than one insurance company is involved. You will need an experienced auto accident attorney on your side working for you to recover damages that you need. Whether the claim can be resolved quickly or if a lawsuit will need to be filed depends on the circumstances of your case. It is in your best interests to contact an auto accident attorney as soon as possible following a multi-vehicle accident, so that your attorney can investigate and uncover evidence right away. Over time, determining facts can become more difficult, so do not waste time finding an experienced attorney to help you with your claim.

Accidents can be caused by drunk drivers, distracted drivers, poorly maintained roadways and highways, or careless or reckless drivers.
