This is the best kind of car insurance to have in Texas--learn about it!

What is UM or UIM coverage?
This is insurance coverage you purchase for yourself which will compensate you for the damages you sustain in an accident caused by a driver who does not have the state-mandated liability insurance. It will also cover you if the other driver does not have enough liability insurance to adequately compensate you for your damages. This type of coverage also pays for damages caused by hit-and-run drivers if you report the accident promptly to the police. UM/UIM coverage applies to you, your family members, passengers in your car and others driving your car with your permission. Also, if you’re in someone else’s car and involved in an accident, your own UM/UIM coverage travels with you, giving you the ability to make a claim on your own policy in the event the negligent driver is uninsured or is underinsured.

You will have a chance to, but don't reject this coverage!
Insurance companies are required to offer UM/UIM coverage to all of their customers, but you can reject it in writing if you want. But don’t reject it. Approximately 20 percent of the drivers on Texas roads are driving without any liability insurance (which is in violation of Texas law) and over half of the insured drivers only have the minimum amount of insurance. This is why UM/UIM coverage is an absolute necessity if you can afford it. It’s one of the best types of insurance to have.
