Do Not Discard

Putting bank statements, credit card information, property ownership details and other like documents in your trash is risky. Trash pickers gain valuable information from your documents to be able to steal your valuables. This is especially true as tax documents such as 1099s, year-end statements and the like are on everyone's mind and old documents are being tossed in the garbage.

Shred Sensitive Documents

If you have sensitive papers shred them. Get it done this weekend. Documents to be shredded include any papers that contain account numbers, identity information, old 1099s, old tax returns, property locations and similar such materials.

Make Sure Mail is Secure

When you are away makes sure your mail is secured. Have the post office hold it. Mail box snoops gain needed leads about you and your identity when they are aware your mail is piling up and not being attended.
