In Texas, the law allows people to take care of their own representation, this is called Pro Se representation. Although we do not recommend it, we endorse it for uncontested divorces in Texas, specially when no children or property are at issue.
1
File the petition for divorce
You need to have your petition prepared and file in the county that you or your spouse reside.
2
Serve your spouse
In order for a divorce to go to the final step, your spouse needs to either be served with the citation or filed a waiver of service with the court.
3
Get you final divorce decree
After 60 days from the time that you file your petition for divorce, assuming that there is no contention, you can obtain a final hearing to get your final decree of divorce.
