Driving while your license is suspended is the number one reason for arrests in the state of Florida. More people are arrested for this than any other single offense and the causes for suspension are often avoidable.
1
Check to see if your license is valid.
Go to the "Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles" website and enter your driver's license number in the field under "Drivers License Check." Click enter and a screen will appear indicating that your license is either VALID or not valid. If not valid the reason for the suspension will be listed.
Contact an attorney before trying to correct the reason for the suspended license. Often times doing what you think is the right thing to do can cause more harm than good.
2
Once you have a valid license keep it that way.
When ever you receive a traffic ticket take care of it. This means either electing a driving school or requesting a hearing. Never just pay a ticket. Just paying a ticket puts points on your driving record.
If you owe court ordered child support - stay current. If you are voluntarily paying child support, keep track of it. If you are ever taken to court for it you will need to provide proof of past payments.
Do not commit crimes. Many crimes today such as theft require a license suspension upon conviction.
3
If you are confused, consult with a lawyer that is experienced in the area of traffic laws.
Attorneys who deal with these types of cases can usually determine your best course of action by simply reviewing your official driving record. Don't take a chance. Most problems can be handled economically if caught early. As issues pile up the solutions become increasingly more expensive.
