Many times people think that an immigration question can be answered simply by “Yes” or “No.” Although I like to think this is the case but unfortunately it is not. Before an immigration lawyer can answer an immigration question, the individual asking the question must answer many questions.
1
Organize your thoughts
Give the necessary and relevant information to the lawyer so the lawyer can have sufficient understanding of your situation. If writing is a problem for you, ask someone to write for you or write your question off line and then simply copy and paste.
2
Provide procedural history of your case
Tell the lawyer what happened procedurally from the date you entered the United States until today. The procedures include the basis of your entry into the United States and on what type of visa, how long were you allowed to stay, did you overstay, do you have a criminal record, did you get married, did you file any applications with the USCIS, do you have a court date, etc...
