Consider the effect of your Social Media posts
If you have been charged with an alcohol related offense, there may come a time when your attorney needs to stand with you in court and inform the judge that you have taken steps to address a perceived drinking problem. You may have begun to attend alcohol classes and sworn that you have maintained sobriety since you were charged. Despite your attendance in such classes, you continue to drink...and then you tell your social media world about it. At some point, someone may attempt to view your social media profile. You might have posted something about the 'kegger' you attended or been tagged in a photo with a martini glass in your hand. You can see the problem.
But my social media profile is private...
While this may be true, you never know what your 'facebook friends' may say about you. Additionally, it is not unheard of for law enforcement or probation officers to create a fictitious profile and request to befriend you. Not really thinking about it, you consent. Now your posting history, your photos showing you with a beer funnel or doing body shots at a strip club are now fodder for the sentencing judge.
We live in a new age.
I enjoy spending time on social media websites a great deal. I love catching up with old friends and making new ones. What amazes me, however, is reading how people confess to crimes (or to just being really stupid) in front of the whole world. Just give some thought to what you place out there in the ether!
