Brain Damage and Injury

When bikers are thrown to the ground in an accident, it is common for them to sustain brain injuries and brain damage. These injuries are know as traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Although a helmet may reduce the severity of the injury, brain injuries can still occur with the use of a helmet. These injuries can cause vision loss, speech loss, memory loss, and affect the ability to remember and think.

Blindness, Hearing Loss and Facial Disfigurement

When bikers have crashes and do not wear helmets, their faces are open to facial injuries that can include broken facial bones, eye injuries, blindness, loss of hearing, broken teeth, and permanent facial scarring.

Broken Bones and Limb Amputations

Due to force involved in a biker's impact with the ground or vehicle, he can suffer broken bones in his arms, legs, spine, knees, ankles, hips, and wrists. Some injuries are so severe that amputation may occur. In addition to bone fractures, these accidents cause permanent nerve damage and pain throughout the body.

Spinal Cord Injury

Motorcycle accidents can cause injury to the vertebrae in the spine and may permanent injury the spinal cord. Spinal cord injuries can cause total body paralysis and partial paralysis in certain limbs.

Death

Like all accidents, the trauma from motorcycle accident can result in the death of a biker. The chances of death may be increased due to failures to use a helmet or wear protective clothing or if the motorcycle driver is driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
