A method for choosing a strong trademark.
1
What are you selling?
Really sit down and hash out what goods or services you are selling or providing. Think about what adjectives could readily describe the good/service. Think about what aspects are unique to your good or service.
2
Come up with some names.
From your brainstorming in Step 1, jot down some names. You want to avoid words which are a generic description of your good/service. You also should try to avoid using your name, a geographic limitation, and a word that is obviously descriptive of the good/service in general. The best trademarks are 1. words that have nothing to do with the good/service; or 2. a completely made up word.
3
Determine if there are others using it.
Conduct a Google search for your potential terms. See if the results are providing similar goods/services. If you are confident, conduct a search on the Trademark Office website (USPTO.gov).
4
Narrow down your choices.
From Steps 1-3, you should have a good idea what your best option is from a marketing and legal standpoint. Pick one.
5
File a trademark registration.
To avoid future complications, contact an attorney to prepare and file your application.
