WitnessesGet witness contact information. Ask around or if you are unable to do so, ask someone else to see if they can speak to anyone who may have seen the incident, get their statement of what they saw and be sure to get their contact information. Witnesses prove to be extremely helpful in supporting your claim. 2
PicturesTake pictures of the scene as soon after the incident has happened as possible. Take pictures of yourself and your injuries. Take pictures of any objects that may be related to the incident (ie, cars involved, damaged property, etc.) 3
Medical TreatmentThe most important thing is to make sure you are properly cared for after you have been injured. If you need to be taken to the hospital, let medical professionals and an ambulance get you there. Be sure to tell all doctors exactly how you feel. Log what doctors you see, when you see them, what they prescribe and what treatment is needed. Be religious about continuing any treatment they have prescribed. If you also require psychiatric treatment, be sure to get that as soon as possible. Many people suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after such incidents and it is important to get treatment early. 4
Loss of EarningsInform your employer what has happened and log anytime missed from work. Get a letter from your employer detailing how much time and money you have missed due to the incident. 5
