Just in case you haven’t heard, the County actually mailed the Pittsburgh and Mount Oliver residential re-assessment notices on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Since then I have received countless calls and emails from property owners who are concerned about how their new assessments will impact their property taxes. Unfortunately, we won’t know for sure until the Pittsburgh School District sets its 2012 millage rates. It doesn’t look like that will happen until sometime next week (at the earliest).
Until then, all Pittsburgh and Mount Oliver property owners are faced with the difficult issue of evaluating their appeal options without knowing exactly how much, in taxes, they are fighting over. Remember, the first appeal deadline for Pittsburgh and Mount Oliver properties is January 13, 2012. That is the last day on which an Informal Review can be requested.
I do have one small bit of good news. The County has posted the new assessed values on their real estate website. You can follow this link to view your assessment and determine if your property has been fairly valued in relation to other similar properties:
It still looks like we are on track for the December 31, 2011 mailing of commercial values in Pittsburgh and Mount Oliver. On January 5, 2012, Judge Wettick will address the schedule for the rest of the County.
As always, I will prepare more updates as soon as I have any more information to provide.
