There's a lot of confusion out there about transformative mediation. A common misconception is that the transformative mediator pushes for improved relationships. While this is a common positive side effect, it is not the transformative mediator's goal. My latest blog entry, available here, describes the basics of where transformative mediation fits in. You'll see that the tranformative model's primary difference from other approaches is that it focuses on supporting, but never pushing, parties in whatever direction they want to go. (And this support usually allows parties to get to great places, including durable settlements, and, where appropriate, improved relationships).
