Areas that government agencies regulate
include manufacturing, wages, product safety, broadcasting, immigration, and
taxation. Government law attorneys specialize in the regulations, procedures,
and enforcement powers of government agencies. Also called regulatory
lawyers, these attorneys work for the government or in the private sector
helping people and businesses interact with the government. A common concern
for government attorneys is the balance between the enforcement powers of
government agencies and the civil rights of private citizens. Some government
law attorneys, also called public interest lawyers, represent the interests
of groups of individuals affected by government regulations, as with, for
example, the enforcement or non-enforcement of environmental laws.
