A
copyright protects your creative work, whether it's a written book, story or
play, a piece of music, choreography, a film, artwork or architecture.
While U.S. law holds that copyright
exists at creation, it will be easier to protect your rights if you register
your work with the U.S. Copyright Office. Registration creates a public record
of when the work was created. This can be used to help you stop copyright
violators, either here or abroad.
To register your copyright, you need to send the
U.S. Copyright Office a completed application, registration fee and copies of
the work being registered. Works can be registered even if they are
unpublished.
