Appeals Overview

Appeals are requests to a higher court or board to change or reverse a judgment. Appeals include reviewing decisions of lower courts for mistakes or miscalculations in criminal or civil actions; requesting the reversal or change of an Internal Revenue Service audit;  asking that denials for disability, pension, healthcare, or other benefits be overturned. Appeals can be simple or complex, and laws can vary from state to state. In most cases time limits apply for filing appeals.
