I have a class 2 felony from when I was 18, I am now 27. Can I obtain a Prop and Casualty insurance license in Illinois?
Asked in Chicago, IL - almost 4 years
I am trying to get a job with a family memebers insurance agency. Will I be able to obtain my Prop and Casualty Ins license in Illinois with a felony conviction from when I was 18? I am now 27. Apparently the only way to get the felony off my record is to get a pardon by the Gov. of Illinois. No expunge or having my records sealed. Will I be approved for the license if I pass the tests?

The best thing to do is to contact the Department by phone at (217) 785-0800 or on their website at http://www.idfpr.com/. You can explain your specific situation and they can advise you from there.
If you need to seek a pardon from the governor, you must draft and submit what is called a "clemency petition." It is designed to be done yourself without the help of a lawyer. You can find forms, information, and instructions regarding Illinois clemecy petitions at the Prisoner Review Board's Website at http://www.state.il.us/prb/prbexclemex.htm.
