Move out notice issue - does verbal agreement from mgmt rep matter?

We moved into an Edina property for a 3 month term while our new home was being built. The mgmt rep we signed the lease with told us that since we were leaving actually 10 weeks after we moved in, we needn't worry about the 2 month notice for move out and that he would "take care of it". When we informed mgmt as to our move out date, they told us that since they weren't notified with 2 months notice, that we would be liable for 2 additional months of rent and utilities. This amounts to just over $2800. I'm wondering if we can fight this. We just received the notice 2 days ago and are told that we have 7 days to pay or else they will turn this over to a collections company. I'm willing to compromise to avoid litigation, but am not sure how best to proceed.

Is our property manager able to charge us over $200 for painting (although we were told to patch holes and paint ourselves)?

Before we moved, an initial walkthrough was done and the property manager told us we needed to patch holes and paint ourselves to avoid a charge. We did, but when the deposit was returned, we were still charged over $200. In reviewing CA Tenant law, I saw that painting was not considered something tenants are charged for. Would like to know if we are responsible or if we can continue to fight for our money like we've been doing.

Judgement against me that I can't pay - what are my options?

I had a dispute over rent while renting a room in a friend's house; we'd agreed to deferred rent and he sued me when he wasn't happy with how slowly I could afford to pay him. The facts weren't in dispute, so I had a judgement entered against me in small claims court.

I asked to pay in installments, and filed the appropriate paperwork (including statement of assets and income), and I got a notice back saying the motion was denied with no explanation. I am, in fact, unable to pay, but now he is demanding immediate payment or he'll take further legal action and charge me for the cost of that further action. I'm barely scraping by with my bills as it is.

What are my options? It seems silly to file bankruptcy over $8000 in total debt, but I have no assets and am starting a small business.

I am receiving assistants from my Multi-purpose Center but the apts. signed a form saying they will wait 6 to 8 weeks for payment but ask me if I could come up with the cash because they cant go forward with allowing assitants without a full months rent paid. I still may need 1 more month of assistants.
