Can I refuse or abate rent in this case?

My apartment has become increasinly colder over the past 2 months. I had gas utility come out to see if there was some sort of problem. I found that the furnace has a disconnected switch and is missing the pilot tube, so even the the furnace is on, there is no heat coming into the apt. The manager lied to me and told me something different but I brought the info from WE energies to his attention. The furnace is still in disrepair and I have a very rare blood disorder affected by the cold. I have spent a lot of money on safe indoor heaters etc. because leaving att this point is not an option for me. I will have knee surgery in a couple of weeks which keeps me from moving and plus at this point I have no where else to go. Any suggestions?

I heard that in Washington state it is illegal to turn power off with children in the home. Is this true?

I haven't had my power shut off. But the utility company is asking for a huge deposit from me due to my payment record. I have been late paying for the last few billing cycles because I am the only income in my house right now. My boyfriend got laid off(economy). I would like to know what my rights are before I call and speak to the utility company. I have a 7 year old daughter that lives with me.

I'm a diabetic and was recently pulled over and breathlyzed at .043. Is diabetes a legitimate defense?

I was pulled over 1.5 months ago for drunk driving, 1 month before my 21st birthday. I've been a diabetic for 17 years. The breathlyzer read a .043. I had literally 1/2 of beer 1 hour beforehand. Can I use my diabetes as a defense for my court date??

what our options about recovering rent on a lease to a tenant who decided not to move in?

My wife and I were planning to rent a room to a girl from Alaska. we sent an a lease agreement to the mother, father and daughter via email. in the email we stated that " Here’s the promised summary of the leasing of the room in our we discussed for your daughter. If you disagree with anything I’ve written, let me know A.S.A.P.
By responding to this email, will confirm in writing that you, your husband, and /or daughter will pay 450.00 per month plus utilities for each month of rent for the period from September 1, 2009 to June 1, 2010".

My wife talked to the daughter and we recieved emails from the mother confirming the agreement. upon arriving they informed us via email that they found another place. Can I hold them to the lease or get compensated for breaking the lease?

Do i need a real estate attorney?

I just purchased a home which listed natural gas as a heating source. Yes, I have a copy of the original listing. When I tried to transfer the gas account into my name, the energy company informed me the gas main doesn't even reach my home.

The home inspector inspects the condition of the property, appliances and heating sources, not which utilities are present. Since there were no issues with the heating unit, no mention was made of the heating source as there were no obvious signs of broken or improperly installed gas lines.

It will cost me over six thousand dollars just to get the gas main to my home in addition to the cost to install gas lines and convert the heater to gas.

What are my legal options? Do I have any recourse?

tenants right to terminate lease due to rat infestation in attic and extremely high energy bill

Can we brake our lease if our utility bill is to high due to lack of insulation and rat infestation in the attic?

We signed the lease on July 1 and moved into a house that feels like it is not up to code.
Also, the landlord has dumped tons of trash into Brushy Creek, including but not limited to household trash, spools of wire and alluminum. The covered it with dirt using a backhoe.

This landlord has made many short cuts and I feel that it is endangering my family's health.

Mom died - no assets - just the house and no will in Michigan - Lots of Debt - Help!

MY mom died 2 weeks ago with no will. She was widowed and I am an only child and therefore the only "heir". We live in Michigan. I know I am not responsible for her debt...the "estate" is. However, she was on the edge of shutoff for unpaid utility bill (gas and electric- same bill) and the energy company is refusing to allow someone else to set up new service in thier name cuz of the debt my mom left on her account - is this legal? why should a new person be responsible for the debt of the location? Also do I need to open probate? I would like to keep the house as the market is so bad but can credit card debtors "force" the sale of the house? I also need a roof badly and don't have 10K to pay for it and was thinking of letting a friend live there free for putting on a roof...can I do tha

Can I bring a company to court for reimbursement because of services they said they would provide but did not?

Xcel Energy told me on two occasions that they would send someone to my property to rip up some bushes around one of their utility boxes. Over two months went by so I called a third time and now they say they won't do this. Too much time has passed and now I need to pay a landscape company to complete it before my wedding because I do not have the time. Can I bring them to court to be reimbursed? if so, what type of complaint should I file?
