Will filing Chapter 7 prior to losing a civil suit exempt the amount due?

In 2004, I had an accidental discharge of a firearm that injured a friend of mine. The case went sour and the best offer I received from the state (Alabama) was Felony 2nd degree Assault and 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment with Youthful Offender status. They filed a civil suit in 04 for insurance premiums, traveling expenses, and pain & suffering. My attorney advises me that they will most likely win the suit due to the fact that I plead guilty. I have paid restitution on the actual proven costs (insurance deductibles, other expenses). What he tells me is they have me on the pain & suffering. The suit states at the end "in an amount to be set by the jury", which could be anything. My attorney tells me Chapter 7 will eliminate the debt if I lose but wants me to file prior to trial.

Wages in CO garnished from 2004 court decision in CA

I lived in an apt in Ontario, CA in 2003, Apt was under my husband's name. My name was not on the lease. My husband was arrested on a felony burgulary during that time and myself & the children were evicted. He will get out in 2012, Why am I having my wages garnished? I was never notified of any court dates. I recieved notification today from my employer of this action. The apt was never in my name, am I responsible for for his debt? The rent was paid on time for 3 yrs right up to the eviction. The reason we were terminated from the lease was because of his felony charge violated the terms of the lease.
Do I have any recourse? Myself & the children currently reside in Colorado. The judgement is $2500, the attachment is going to be $250 mo. I cannot afford that amount. HELP!! Thank you

I lost my job a month ago. The only income I have is the unemployment check which is $200.00 per week. I have spoke several times with my lawyer but he is refusing to readjust to the weekly income I am now receiving. His secretary tells me the only thing he can do is for me to give over my car, then he will readjust the weekly payments. He is refusing the readjust my payments after I have requested for a payment change.

I called them and they said it was "written off". Wow, what a blessing. A year or so later a collection agency is asking for the money. Threatening "legal actions". It's been 3 years. What can they do, legally?
