Can a court force my fiance to pay alimony and arrears payments in excess of what he earns?

My future husband pays his ex half of every dollar he makes. The court awarded her permanent alimony because of the length of their marriage. She recently took him back to court and claimed that the "shared bills" he paid on their behalf during their separation were "gifts" and shouldn't have been deducted from her alimony payments. The court ruled in her favor and now the arrears payments in addition to the 50% of his income he is already giving her is in excess of what he earns and requires to live. Can the court do this and if not how does he go about getting the arrears amount modified so that he doesn't end up living in a cardboard box? They were divorced in VA. He has already tried to contest the permanent alimony at 50% and didn't succeed.

How does Retirement and Social Security impact on alimony payments to a former spouse?

I have recently retired at age 63 under FERS and had been paying alimony for over 13 years. A Wage Assignment ensued at the time of dissolution and I lost contact with my ex-spouse. Who initiates an order to show cause...my ex spouse or me? Since I no longer earn wages does the garnishment still apply to SSI or any pension funds left and not owed to other creditors? It would seem that her entitlement to file for SSI on my account would be one factor in lowering or eliminating a continuing need for Spousal Support!

My future husband was divorced 5 years ago. His ex receives 50% of ever dollar he makes for the rest of her life. She is still not satisfied and recently took him back to court claiming he was in arrears on some portion of his payments which he is not. I want to know, can she come after my current and future income as his new spouse? They were divorced in the Virginia court system.

How many months of marriage must elapse before you are responsible for child support in a divorce? Im a step-parent

I married my wife (who had two kids) approximately 11 months ago. The anniversary of the 11th month will be occurring tomorrow.

What I would like to know is, is there a legal number of months or years that once crossed in a marriage would *require* me to pay child support or alimony to her and her children if we got divorced?.
Divorce is on the cards at the moment and my father remembers reading something about not having to pay support if divorced before the 12th month. Could there be any truth to this?
