Insurance law covers the policies insurance companies can offer and the rates they can charge. Because there are so many different kinds of insurance, a good insurance lawyer is very helpful. Personal insurance standards include auto insurance, health insurance, homeowners insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance. Each of these policies covers losses from different types of risk, and both the losses and the risks are carefully defined. It can take an insurance lawyer just to determine if your loss resulted from a risk you were insured for. Sometimes insurance companies will deny claims, acting in what is legally called “bad faith.” Insurance lawyers can determine if your insurer is treating you fairly and sue for you if the company is acting in bad faith.
