Aurora, Colorado has roots that go deep into American history. After Denver was established, Aurora popped up as a suburb that started as little more than prairie fields.
The military played a pivotal role in Aurora’s history. The town went through an explosion of construction in 1918 and an Army General hospital was erected. Lowry Air Force Base, just southwest of town, was home to many servicemen in World War II. Lowry Air Force Bases later expanded to a site to the east that would eventually become Buckley Air Force Base.
Aurora now hosts the 2013 Colorado Freedom Memorial, dedicated to Colorado military members who died in battle serving the nation.
