Same-Sex

Although same-sex marriage is increasingly legally recognized across the U.S., sex-sex couples wishing to divorce often face a different set of legally complications than heterosexual couples. Same-sex divorce attorneys understand how to navigate the unique issues which face gay couples who are divorcing. For example, in those states where same-sex marriage is not legal, same-sex divorce is often not legal, either. Because many gay couples were married in states were same-sex marriage is legal but reside in states where it is not, these residency issues become problematic. Additionally, same-sex couples face unique circumstances involving children, biological or adopted, as each spouse may not have equal legal rights as parents. In addition to providing the services of a divorce attorney, lawyers with experience with same-sex divorce will know how to handle those issues unique to same-sex divorce.
