Verdict for plaintiff $5.7 million

Jury verdict was returned for a 40-year-old woman who suffered a series of small strokes that went undiagnosed until she suffered a major stroke that left her with permanent cognitive deficits, inability to work, and difficulty communicating. The verdict in the Superior Court of Washington, D.C., was against a neurologist and a major group of radiologists. The radiology group appealled. The verdict was reduced by $1.4 million on appeal to account for Maryland’s “cap” on damages for loss of quality of life, but the verdict was otherwise affirmed.
