What chance do I have in winning a wrongful death case against the Federal government?: My husband was in a Federal Prison and died because he didn't get the proper medical care. I have documentation that shows proof of this. Do I have a case? This happened in Alabama.

Joel’s answer: Sorry to hear about your husband's death. Much more information is needed to determine if a case exists. An attorney will need to review the medical records that you reference in your question. Most likely, a doctor (to serve as a consultant or expert witness) will need to review the records, too. If there was negligence involved, then certain claims exist, including a federal claim under Section 1983. You should act swiftly to locate a lawyer because there are time limits on claims. Most lawyers, including myself, with experience litigating against jails, prisons, etc., will review the case for free. If a case exists, the lawyer gets paid from the recovery. Good luck. www.erlitigators.com

I studied online, now they're asking me to pay an additional fee to get my degree, while this was not mentioned in the beginning: I studied online, at an American University called MUST University and yesterday I finished all my courses. They called me up, saying I have to pay 500 US Dollars to get my degree sent to me, or 2 000 US dollars to get authentication documents (so I can use my degrees in Europe where I am from)

The thing is; before even registering with this University and paying the Total Program Fee I asked them to send me an email that confirmed that the amount I had to pay was the total amount and that I wouldn't have any other further payments. They did that for me, I got an email from the so called Head of Finance confirming that the amount would be the final payment for the program. Now they're using this against me saying "yes, but what we're asking for has nothing to with the program" - can they?

Joel’s answer: This certainly sounds like an unfair and deceptive trade practice. However, in order to determine whether the University is permitted to assess the $500 charge, an attorney will need to review your enrollment/registration agreement and any other documents associated with tuition and fees. What is the reason given by the University for assessing the $500 charge? A class action attorney, including myself, may take an interest in this dispute if the University is trying to assess this charge on all students. www.erlitigators.com

Joel’s answer: Sorry to hear about your situation. You need to have your investment portfolio reviewed by a securities lawyer to determine whether a claim exists. The lawyer will need to ask you several questions concerning the sale of the investments. These questions will relate to the content of the sales pitch given to you at the time that the sales were made. It will also be necessary to analyze your investment objectives, risk tolerance, and overall financial picture. Most securities lawyers, including myself, will review your case for free, and if one exists, represent you on a contingency fee basis.
