Can I sue my landlord for forging my signature on top of unsafe living conditions?: The landlord forged my signature on a letter stating I need to pay extra charges for damages to the apartment I am currently in. I am paying my monthly rent on time and now have additional charges that were added to my lease that they claim will be there until "The life of the lease". The letter was sent to me by email and I am positive the signature is forged. The letter basically claims to be for the repairs they've done to the apartment and blaming the dog we have for those. They are charging for repairs that needs to come from landlord and not have us pay more additionally to the lease.
Ronald’s answer: Forgery is a crime. If you believe that someone has forged your signature, you should call the police. Despite the suspected forger being your landlord, this is first and foremost a criminal issue. Of course, it all comes down to whether it can be proven. As for being charged by your landlord for something you didn't agree to, that is a civil issue. If you refuse 0to pay, the landlord may be entitled to seek to evict you for breach of the lease even if you're up to date on the rent. It depends upon what your lease says. Your defense to that would be that he forged your signature and that you never agreed to that provision. Again, it comes down to proof.

How do I find out someone in jail has been served papers?: I'm a fighting for custody over my god daughter. The mother is incarcerated and I have a attorney who has gotten the papers filed and is suppose to get a restraining order. How do I find out if the restraining order is in effect? And how do I find out that the mother has been served the papers for us fighting for custody? I dont want to bug my attorney because hes a busy man but I want to make sure the mother has been served before she gets out and goes M.I.A again and tries to take the baby when she is homeless.
Ronald’s answer: If you don't want to ask your attorney, call the jail and ask them if the person has been served. There's no particular reason why the jail personnel wouldn't tell you.
