Can I travel out of state?: I received a DUI in McHenry county, IL and my case has been continued for a month. Can I travel out of state since I haven’t been convicted?

Donald’s answer: Your bond slip probably says NOT without permission of the court. We frequently contact the state to see if we can get an agreed order asap.

Is it better to hire a career criminal defense attorney or former prosecutor turned defense attorney for DUI in Dupage County?: Hi,
I am in the research phase of hiring a good DUI lawyer. I got a lot of letters in the mail for my case. A lot are "former prosecutors." I wanted to know is it better to hire regular criminal defense lawyer or former prosecutor that prosecuted DUI cases themselves? Any advantages with that?

Donald’s answer: There are hundreds of former prosecutors out there. But knowing how to defend a DUI is a special art in and of itself. Prosecutors don’t learn how to win from the Defense side. They just put a cop on the stand and say “ so what happen next?” Look for someone who has a proven track record as a defense attorney. Because that’s who you are hiring.

Me and my attorney couldn't make to court today?: Me and my attorney could not make to court today for DUI case. My attorney called the court house saying we cant make it today. what happens then. Do i get new date or will the court issue warrant?

Donald’s answer: Warrant for you. Too many people think that court appearances are optional or that lawyers are a replacement for going to court. Even if your lawyer appeared, your failure could result in a warrant unless you are in the hospital. Take court seriously.
