Can a level 1 sex offender that has no restrictions petition for removals as sex offender and if so what steps need to be taken?: So 15 years ago my husband was convicted of sexual assault in the state of New York. Even though his DNA was not found on the victim and she also stated he was not involved. The state of New York still charged him for the assault because he had signed a lease with 3 other men and one of the other men had did the deed. My husband didn't have proper representation and the courts was threatening to take his life away. So they gave him an offer that he signed without reading it but he has no restrictions and everyone keeps asking why is he even considered a lifetime sex offender.
