I am a Theology student/ pastor and would like to take advantage of the 501 c 3 program for my house where I worship. How?:
I have been using my house as a place of worship for family and friends for several years. I want to be certain that I'm utilizing my money to farther the kingdom of God.
James’s answer:
I am a seminary graduate and have been a pastor for 25 years, attorney for 12 and handle a lot of 501c3 applications and church governance issues.
It is not difficult to create a nonprofit corporation, deed the house to that corporation and appeal to be put on the exempt list. Having 501c3 recognition will not in and of itself help you get the property exempted from NJ property taxes. It may help your cause.
There is a way to do this but it is important you do this in a way that is above reproach. It is not worth damaging your integrity before the Lord or your reputation in the community you are trying to reach by obtaining an exemption by questionable means.
If you would like to consult with me I can walk you through this and coach you through some issues that most ministries in your situation face.
My landlord wants to evict me even though i paided my rent ..i live in nj : I have paided my rent for 2 years on time
James’s answer:
During the current COVID-19 emergency you cannot be evicted for nonpayment of rent. There are other reasons which you might be evicted for but the Court is going to be very hesitant to evict for any reason until the crisis is over. Do your best to get the Landlord's reasons for eviction in writing and see if you can fix the problem before the moratorium on evictions is lifted.
Keep all of your receipts and correspondence in case you have to go to Court.
New Jersey is a very tenant-friendly state but if you are doing something that is damaging the landlord's property or putting other tenants at risk and refuse to stop you very well be removed from the property.
My Deceased father has an account With $5000 . I am trying to remove those funds The bank is asking for a surrogate certificate?: I’ve sent the bank his death certificate Social Security number a notarized letter saying that I was the executor of the estate. Now they want this form and I’m not sure how to go about getting it. My father lived in New Jersey and I live in Texas.
James’s answer:
You should contact the County Surrogate's Office. The information for Ocean County was offered above.
You will need to either be designated the executor (if they accept the document you have as a Will) or the administrator of his Estate. You will obtain a short certificate which you will present to the Bank along with the death certificate and they will release the funds.
