Sam was very difficult to get in contact with, and would only return my calls after multiple messages. I believe I was overcharged for my case, and did not receive a bill until a month and a half after the case was dropped, at which point I was surprised that I'd been charged double my retainer for a case that lasted only a few weeks. I called and emailed with detailed questions about the bill. I never heard back, even after repeated contacts with his paralegal. I did not receive a bill for approximately 8 months, and when I did, I tried again repeatedly to get my questions answered. Just got another bill with a notice threatening sending to a collections agency and was finally able to get Sam to return my calls.
Sam was very dismissive of my concerns, and told me that he had done me a favor by not charging me interest. He acted as if I had gotten a great deal in getting an interest-free loan. I just couldn't believe that he would act that way after I called and emailed repeatedly to no avail to get my questions answered. In the end, all he would say was that the charges are reasonable and customary, but I don't consider that a satisfactory answer.
I also want to note that besides the poor business and billing practices, his legal representation was not adequate. He did not follow-up on a matter that opposing counsel had already consented to, and he/his staff did not even know how to get court records from a previous case in another county. I found out months later that it was easily requested online.
All in all, it was a very negative experience, and I hoped I would never have to get an attorney again, figuring that this is just how it was. Unfortunately, I had to get an attorney again this year; however, the experience has been worlds apart. My current attorney charges reasonable fees, explains the charges in detail, keeps me updated on the case and the next steps, and promptly returns my calls and emails. So I know there are good attorneys out there. Keep looking!

Sam has a slick office and degree but he is so lazy. He actually believed what my husband and his lying attorney were saying about me. It was ridiculous. Isn't a lawyer suppose to be on his clients side, no matter what? Well, I never told him a single lie, but he acted as if he was on my husbands side all the time. It was very weird. I tell the truth, but my husband is a professional liar and con man (mandatory in his line of work) and used all his powers to work over my attorney's melon. I never lied and when I complained about he lies from my husbands side he dismissed me. Gave me a weird "whatever" reaction. When I told him my husband was threatening to harm me or anyone I was with, Sam dismissed it, as if he was on my husband's side again. My husband even told me he dreamed about putting a gun to the back of my head and killing me. Sam Swanberg didn't want to hear it. He's the worst. THE WORST!! I don't know if he just hates women or what, but he sure got me raked over the coals. I wouldn't pay this guy to clean dog poop out of my yard. He allowed my husband to lock me off my own property, and told me not to make trouble. Meanwhile my husband was stealing, hiding, and selling everything he could for himself. Dont' make trouble, he told me. Boy was that a mistake. He is the worst. I should have fired him during mediation because I really got f'ckd. Thanks to Sam. Sam if you read this, its Loris. My mom still does not have her farm equipment back thanks to you even though you showed me in the mediation papers that the information was there. It was so vague nobody could ever do anything with what was written and you agreed to it. Thanks for nothing. Absolutely nothing, that's what I got from you. You suck!
