Dick Johnson has been working with injured people and their families, for over 30 years.
Dick is an experienced trial lawyer who has been lead counsel in
more than 150 trials to juries in both state and federal court. Dick
has also been lead counsel in more than 30 cases decided by the
Washington State Court of Appeals. He has also had the privilege to
argue five cases before the Washington State Supreme Court, and five
other cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth
Circuit. Dick has won important appellate rulings in the areas of motor
vehicle law, employment discrimination law, and first – party insurance
bad faith law.
Dick served on the Court Rules & Procedures Committee of The
Washington State Bar Association, and was the Chairperson of the Court
Rules & Procedures Committee of the Washington State Association For
Dick is rated “AV” by the Martindale – Hubbell Legal Directory,
the nation’s oldest and most highly regarded legal rating firm. This
signifies that Dick has been practicing for a number of years, and is
recognized by other lawyers, and judges, for the highest levels of legal
ability, and integrity.
Dick has been active in the Yakima community, especially in youth
sports. He coached youth football and baseball for 15 years. Dick is
the past President of the Yakima Valley Grid Kids Association, and he
also served for 16 years as the Secretary – Treasurer of Yakima Youth
Baseball, the sponsoring organization for American Legion Baseball in
Yakima. Dick was also a founding member of the Board of Directors of the
Yakima Valley Sports Commission.
Dick was born in Spokane in 1949. He was raised near St. John,
in northern Whitman County, where his ancestors started farming before
statehood. Dick has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washington State
University, and his Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from The Gonzaga University School of Law. He served on the editorial board of The Gonzaga Law Review. Dick also served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army.
Dick and Janet Johnson have been married since 1976, and have
lived in Yakima since 1978. They have three sons, and three
Licensed since 1976
