About me

Hello, and thank you for reviewing my profile.  I'm a trial attorney licensed to practice in Washington and Oregon.  My litigation practice focuses on construction defects, property damage, insurance, construction lien foreclosures, commercial collections, real estate, and general business and employment disputes.  I have extensive experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants.  My clients include property owners, condominium and other homeowner associations, developers, contractors, material suppliers, and small and medium-size business owners.  I have successfully guided my clients through mediation, arbitration, and all phases of litigation, including trial.  I also serve as an Arbitrator in the Mandatory Arbitration programs for King, Kitsap, Thurston, and Clallam Counties.

Prior to becoming an attorney, I was an officer in the U.S. Navy.  While a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO), I drove ships, managed weapon systems, supervised refueling and small boat operations, inspected engineering plants, oversaw government contracts, taught ROTC, and coached sailing.

I'm a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and I have a masters degree from Fordham University and a law degree from the University of Virginia.

  • Nathan Furman

I met Jim working on different sides of a construction defect case. He is a skilled and effective litigator, and obtained a good result for his clients.

  • Joseph Lars Rockne

Mr. Hicks was an opposing counsel in a matter. He was professional and very workmanlike in his approach. I am happy to refer matters to him.
