About Me

"Integrity is Doing What Is Right When No One is Looking"

I have been practicing law in WA State for more than ten years, working diligently to ensure that my clients' rights are protected. I have built my reputation as a skilled attorney based on integrity and “doing the right thing,” while still getting the results my clients expect. Although no attorney can guarantee 100% sucess 100% of the time, what I can guarantee is that I will listen to you carefully, explain your options to you, explain the law to you, and help you make the best decisions possible based on the particular facts and circumstances of your case.

My practice with the Mount Vernon office of Tario  Associates is focused on Family Law and Criminal Defense matters.  Family Law is an especially delicate area of practice, requiring an attorney who not only knows the law but who is able to assist clients in finding solutions that are specific to their situation.  An attorney who is just going to "cut and paste" a Parenting Plan or Decree of Dissolution isn't really serving the client properly.  I will work to make sure that your Family Law matters are handled in such a way that you are happy with the results and that the final documents are tailored to your specific needs.  Many family law matters can be resolved without resorting to extensive litigation.  Some cases, however, will require mediation and perhaps even a trial.  Whatever the end result, you can be assured that I will work aggressively to defend your rights.

As a criminal defense attorney, I have taken numerous cases to trial for my clients.  It is impossible to list every case that I have won (and, yes, I have lost cases, too), but I can report that I have taken more than fifty cases to trial, both misdemeanors and felonies, and won the majority of them.  The cases listed on this website are just a few examples of the matters in which I was able to reach a successful conclusion for my client.  As a former prosecuting attorney, I am able to assess the case from both sides and give my clients an excellent idea of what issues the prosecution is focusing on, as well as what to expect at trial.  Of course, most criminal cases are resolved without having to go to trial.  I have been able to successfully negotiate good resolutions for my clients in cases ranging from Theft to Assault to Criminal Sex Offense charges.  Sometimes those negotiations result in a Dismssal of the charges, sometimes they involve treatment programs for my client, but I always advocate for the best resolution possible based on the specific facts and circumstances of each case.

I 2006 I accepted a position as a contract attorney with the Benton Franklin Juvenile Justice System. Because of this work, I am now recognized state-wide as an authority on juvenile justice issues. I speak regularly at conferences and seminars about issues affecting juvenile justice in Washington state, and I am particularly recognized for my work with juvenile sex offenders.  I have also been a featured speaker at the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorney’s yearly conference regarding child support issues.   I was recently invited by members of the Washington State Supreme Court to be a presenter at the “Celebration of 50 years of Gideon” event, held at the University of Washington School of Law, where I spoke about the importance of court-appointed counsel for indigent defendants.

You can find out more about me and about our firm at our website, www.tariolaw.com.  I practice in Skagit, Island, and Whatcom Counties, and am also able to travel to other areas if you have a case in another part of WA State.  I would be happy to schedule an appointment to discuss your case.
