Alex represented me approximately 11 months ago. He is an excellent negotiator and by far the best mediator I have ever worked with. He was very kind, but at the same time got right to the heart of the key issues, and was instrumental in reaching a final agreement/settlement in a non-compete case. He was very professional while working with me and the other parties attorney. Alex was very thorough with all communications with me and my current company's attorney as well as the other parties attorney. Alex is very knowledgeable in non-compete cases. I am very happy with the final outcome of our case.
After having worked with lawyers many times throughout my life, I have to applaud Alex for being the Lawyer with a Heart. He is a rare find! My first inquiry via email was promptly returned and filled with compassion, respect and understanding for my situation. I deeply respect that he has a simple, unpretentious office setting that oozes with authenticity vs. the usual 'my fee is X and thanks for paying it so I can have this fabulously fancy office.' What led me to choose Alex (after speaking with a few lawyers) was his honest, direct communication style mixed with his compassion and understanding. He was able to 'read' where I was at and mold the conversation to meet me where I was (a horribly abusive work environment) so that I felt comfortable throughout. The initial consult took less than an hour and Alex respectfully offered to take payment for the time he spent and not the hour I had originally planned to pay. His rate was far more reasonable than most which tells me that the work he does is to help people, not gouge them in trying times. More importantly he knows his work. He talked me through different options and approaches for my case. Explained very directly, the pros/cons, etc. He also was very clear that if a case needed to go to litigation, he would review at that time and decide whether he would handle the case or refer elsewhere. Again, very up front and honest which I deeply respect. Alex responds to all of my mails very promptly (even over the weekends) and has willingly spent time with me on the phone during his non-work hours to talk through urgent items I needed assistance with. In every interaction I continue to experience his respectful and direct manner beautifully balanced with his kind and caring nature. The man can give a solid pep talk too. He helped me feel empowered for an upcoming challenging meeting. Not the norm with most attorney's I have ever met. Alex does this work to help people and that is obvious. It is simple, he cares! I'm still in the midst of my case and I would recommend him to anyone who needs an employment attorney. I respect that not every lawyer is a good fit for every individual. Some folks want the stereotypical attorney that the world at large likes to poke fun of. Dishonest, selfish, willing to do anything to serve their own ego. That is not Alex at all. He is like the family friend who cares, wants to guide and help, sees beyond the paycheck and is aware enough to support you as a whole person throughout the process. When the lawyer you are interviewing asks you, "How are you doing with all of this?" and states "If something shifts and you can't manage this anymore, just say the word and we will shift the approach" how can you not hire him.
Alex has been very helpful and responsive assisting me navigate through some difficult legal issues. He has always gone the extra mile, assisting me during off hours and immediately responding to my concerns. He has provided valuable and practical advice.
I couldn't have asked for a better lawyer or outcome. Alex did such a good job that at then end of my trial not only did I win but the jury awarded me more than the federal laws allow. He wasn't the first lawyer I took my case to but he was the only one I felt like really listened and put my input to use. During the whole long process he made me feel like he cared about me as a person and not just client. I know I am not the easiest person to work with but he did a great job. He did a great job at explaining the laws to me.I would recommend him to anyone going through discrimination or retaliation.
I was referred to Alex for a matter related to my employment. I always believed that Alex knew what he was doing, that he was keeping me informed, and that he would not take any action without my consent. I was very happy with the results that Alex had provided for me, and I would trust him with my life.
I would highly recommend Alex based on my personal experience, the results speak for themselves. He understands the positions from the company side of things and was able to review my materials and provided excellent counsel based on his experience. He set realistic expectations and helped me past emotional feelings and to focus on the facts of my case. Ultimately he was able to negotiate a very fair settlement without the need to proceed with all of the pieces needed for a trial. Alex is a great attorney and after discussing my case with 5 other attorneys prior to selecting Alex I have no doubt I made the right decision.
I hired Alex Higgins to help with a settlement negotiation I was doing with a former employer and EEOC. I thought I would improve my position this way. However, the opposing counsel withdrew from negotiations immediately after Alex wrote his initial letter to them. Alex did not give me copies of documents and did not keep me updated regarding actions he took in my case. He made critical decisions in my case without even consulting me. If I disagreed with him about these things he sent me documents stating he was motioning to withdraw from my case, although he had no legal basis to withdraw. He farmed my case out to another attorney stating it was not worth enough money to him. I did not feel he was honest with me on several occasions, He was clearly interested in making money rather than addressing the ethical issues in my case. He had very poor communication with me and opposing counsel both, and seriously underestimated the monetary value of my case. I would not recommend Alex Higgins.

I've worked with Alex on a few occasions around my executive employment contracts and separation agreements. He is extremely responsive, often working weekends to make tight turnarounds. He's also been very effective at suggesting beneficial contract edits that hadn't occurred to me (e.g. asking that disputes get resolved in Washington State so that I wouldn't need to travel). I've been pleased with his advice and the outcomes I've had when working with him. I've recommended Alex to several colleagues looking for help with employment matters.

Wonderful attorney! Was unable to help me after a certain point but told me so upfront rather than billing me hours then telling me. Responsive, polite, compassionate. Highly recommend him.

I was referred to Alex by a local law firm to help me with an employment agreement. He was responsive (even when he was on vacation), helpful, thorough, thoughtful, detail-oriented and obviously experienced at this area of law. I've worked with a lot of lawyers in both a professional capacity as well as for personal business and he was definitely one of the good ones.
When things got emotional for me during one point of the negotiations, he offered counsel that was thoughtful yet unemotional. I appreciated that he was able to bring balance to the situation and that he wasn't out to use my emotions to drag out the situation. Instead, he helped me center on a compromise situation and represented my emotions to the other side (which meant a lot) but worked with me focus on the the long-term results.
I would definitely use him again. His prices were reasonable and he was easy to work with.
