Stew Cogan has arbitrated more than 300 cases and mediated more than
2,000 cases. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in both the
Mediation and Arbitration categories. Stew has been named a
Super Lawyer each year from 1999 through 2014. In 2008, 2009, 2010,
2012, 2013, and 2014 he was named a Top 100 Super Lawyer. He was also
named one of the Best Lawyers in Seattle by Seattle Magazine in its last
four surveys in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007, and one of Puget Sound's Top
Business Lawyers by Seattle Business Monthly in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
He has been hired as a neutral by 45 of the 50 largest law firms in the state
and has worked with more than 2,700 lawyers. He has also worked with
more than 60 Fortune 500 companies, more than 100 governmental entities
and educational institutions, more than 80 banks and other financial
institutions, and more than 80 insurance companies.
Stew is a fellow of both the invitation-only College of Commercial Arbitrators
and the invitation-only American College of Civil Trial Mediators, a member
of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals, and a founding member
of the ADR Roundtable.
He is on the Commercial Panel, the Construction Panel, the Large, Complex
Case Panel, the Healthcare Payor-Provider Panel, and the Mediation Panel
of the American Arbitration Association; the Civil Rule 39.1 Register of the
U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington; and the Arbitration
and Mediation Panels of the American Health Lawyers Association.
Stew is an exceptional mediator. At a time when it seems like every experienced attorney (myself included) is offering mediation services, he has perhaps two or three equals in Seattle in terms of his experience and qualifications. Stew has been mediating cases as his primary focus since before mediation was all the rage. He brings to each mediation a depth of experience and a commitment to find a settlement that gets results. Bring your hotheads, your certain winners, and your "it's the principle" clients, and by the end of the day, they will listen to Stew.
