He has represented general and specialty contractors, developers, design professionals and other members of the construction industry for nearly 20 years. Mr. Vermilyea is a leader in the construction industry in Oregon. He is a frequent speaker and lecturer and he has drafted or helped to draft numerous pieces of legislation affecting the industry, including public works statutes, contractor licensing statutes, prevailing wage and lien statutes.

Originally from Alaska, Mr. Vermilyea grew up in a construction family, his dad having moved the family north during construction of the Trans-Alaska pipeline in the 1970's.  The family remained in Alaska, where Mr. Vermilyea attended Wasilla High School and the University of Alaska Fairbanks before leaving to attend Vermont Law School.  After receiving his J.D., he returned to Anchorage, where he clerked for Judge David Mannheimer, the Chief Judge of the Alaska Court of Appeals.  He then worked at a small law firm in Anchorage that focused on construction law before moving to Oregon in 2000.

Mr. Vermilyea is now a shareholder at Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, and spends time in Schwabe's Seattle and Portland offices while leading the firm's Construction Services team.

In his spare time, Mr. Vermilyea is a devoted Harley Davidson rider and an avid cook, traveler, reader and poker player.  He frequently travels to Alaska to stay connected with friends and to support his alma mater, the University of Alaska.
